5 Gardens to Visit This Summer

Sara Graham
Whether you’re a plant mom, or just inspired by summer’s floral print trends, it seems like plant life is having a moment. At Roth's Clothing, a few of us are avid gardeners, and I am one of them (I’m personally skilled in nurturing plants on my fire escape and window sills in my 500-square foot apartment in New York). If you’re looking for some botanical inspiration to bring home to your garden, or taking a road trip and want some places to stop, here’s a few gardens worth visiting this summer.

1. Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn, New York
Over 52 acres, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden has a lot to see. Some recommended spots are the Japanese Garden and the rock garden. Also of note is the fragrance garden, where you can get lost in fragrant florals.

2. Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania
Perennials, annuals and wildflowers are all on view here, but I love the fountains as well. And with a garden called “Idea Garden,” inspiration is sure to strike.

3. Dessert Botanical Garden, Phoenix, Arizona
Take in flowering cacti and succulents you may have never heard of (and don’t forget your hat for the sun). There’s a fab restaurant here, too.

4. Atlanta Botanical Garden, Atlanta, Georgia
Get lost in 10 acres of the Storza Woods with super-tall tulip poplars and take in one of the largest permanent exhibits by glass artist Dan Chihuly.

5. San Francisco Botanical Garden, San Francisco, California
Need a little serenity from city life? The San Francisco Botanical Garden is a hidden gem in Golden Gate Park and is free every second Tuesday of the month. Check out the diverse array of plants—conifers, succulents and magnolias sit side by side and create a gorgeous landscape.
