For as long as I can remember, I have not been a plus-size shorts girl (no, not even jean shorts or Bermuda shorts). In elementary school, I remember the first sunny days of spring and instead of begging my mom to wear something summery, I’d be saddened that it was time to put away my jeans that made me feel grown-up and my “third piece” (a jacket, a cardigan, etc.) that just pulls a whole outfit together. Wearing less clothes, just feels like less style to me somehow? Needless to say, summer style has always perplexed me.
If you do love shorts—brava! You’re probably reading this, cool as a cucumber. For those of us in camp “no shorts,” here are 4 hacks for getting dressed that I swear by.
Maxi-mize Your Options
Maxi and midi dresses have been trending for awhile and I couldn’t be happier. I love that the longer length instantly looks pulled together, while my legs are free to breathe. Try one in an on-trend summer print and make it office ready by layering a tee underneath.
Rely On A Thin Layer
If baring it all isn’t quite your thing, a barely-there layer is one to rely on when you’re wearing a tank top. We’re obsessed with the Italia Kimono in lightweight viscose (try it with a tank, cropped capris and call it a day).
Speaking of Capris
I have been waiting for the return of the cropped wide-leg jean for years and am thrilled to see so much of the trend this summer. Capri-length jeans are a summery must-have if you’re obsessed with denim, like I am. The wide leg will keep you breezy and cool and looks so cute with so many shoe options (lace-up sneakers, wedge sandals, flat thongs).
Cotton Is Your Friend
Sweat a lot? Same. Shop for cotton or cotton-blend tees to reduce heating up and sweating it out. I love this graphic tee from FILA, the red and blue graphic gives it has a timeless nautical vibe (and is 100% cotton!)
